Glutinous rice has historically been an important staple food for Dong communities in Guizhou. In the mountainous terrain of the region, varieties such as Xianghe glutinous rice are particularly well adapted to the local growing conditions. Compared with regular rice, glutinous rice is also more filling and provides sustained energy for people working long hours in the fields.
